For Vocal Rehabilitation
When all other therapists and teachers fail you, come and get your voice back. The Academy for the Performing Arts provides rehabilitation to singers/speakers with vocal disorders and is successful in rehabilitating injured voices back to complete normal functioning preventing the need for surgery.
What is a node? A “node” (vocal nodule) is a mass of tissue that develops on the vocal chords. Imagine a callous on your finger. When you keep rubbing the same spot, eventually a hard bump appears. This is similar to what happens when a vocal node is formed. A “bump” forms on one or both of the chords hence not allowing the chords to close. The result becomes a breathy, hoarse, or gravelly sound when the affected individual produces sound and sometimes an inability to produce sound at all. As with a callous, the bump remains until you cease and replace the old habit.
A healthy voice for both singers and speakers is essential. It is necessary for singers/speakers to develop habits that support proper vocal function based on the coordination of breathing along with the muscle groups that create a healthy sound. By building a solid technique and having an awareness of how the voice functions, one can develop the necessary tools to keep their voice strong and protected for long-term functioning.
